Ernstrom Wins 3,000 Meters at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Karin Ernstrom nabbed Baylor's first 2000 Texas Relays title as she won the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:44.55. She finished ahead of Tulane's Janna Lyngstad who ran a 9:46.35. Kara Newton finished 17th for Baylor with a time of 10:37.83.
In the day's other distance race, Erin Dixon placed seventh with a 39:51.49 in the 10,000 meters.
For the men, defending National Champion Bayano Kamani ran the fastest preliminary time of the day in the 400 meter hurdles (50.28). Teammate Michael Smith clocked a 50.58, the day's third best mark. David Aaron of Texas was between the two with a 50.56. The 400 meter hurdle finals will be held at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
In the 4x800 meter relay, the Baylor men took fifth with a 7:33.45.
Competition continues Friday and into Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
