Kamani Places Second in 400m Hurdles

DURHAM, N.C. - Baylor track and field standout Bayano Kamani raced to a second-place finish and all-America honors in the 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships Friday.
Kamani, a junior from Houston, was the defending national champion in the event. He ran the race in 48.43, coming in second to USC's Felix Sanchez, who finished with a time of 48.41.
Sophomore Michael Smith placed eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.14. In the women's 4x100 meter relay, the Baylor team of Ssereta Lafayette, Keisa Brown, Tamara Johnson and Barbara Petrahn finished sixth with a time of 44.45.
The NCAA Championships will conclude Saturday. Baylor's Brandon Couts, the NCAA indoor champion in the 400 meter dash, is set to run in the finals of the 400 meter dash at 6:45 p.m. Petrahn will follow in the women's 400 meter dash. Both the men's and women's 4X400 meter relay teams will also compete in the finals.
