Baylor Women Place Seventh at Big 12 Meet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Baylor women's team placed seventh overall at the Big XII Championships, held in College Station on Oct. 30.
Karin Ernstrom finished fifth with a time of 17:13, 25 seconds behind individual champion Kara Wheeler of Colorado. Colorado also took the women's team championship.
Sarah Broyles came in 21st for the Bears, running the 5000 meter race in 17:54. Kara Newton was five spots behind Broyles, with a time of 18:04.
Stephanie Bennett placed 48th (18:29), and Erin Dixon finished 50th (18:34) to round out Baylor's top five.
Also competing were Cynthia Henges (66th, 19:09), Kim Cook (87th, 19:59), and Leah Marbach (88th, 20:03).
The Baylor men came in 11th, led by freshman Ferenc Beskesi, who placed 19th with a time of 25:38.
Beskesi's finish was the best individual placing for the men's team at a Big XII Conference Championship, and the best showing at any conference championship since Brian Keim finished second at the 1995 Southwest Conference Championships.
Brandon Buhr finished 42nd, running the 8000 meter race in 26:15. Josh Ward was 74th, with a time of 27:21.
Jon Capron was right behind Ward in 75th (27:24), while Aaron Ward placed 77th (27:33).
Alex Adler finished 95th (29:25), and Brett Lamb was 97th (29:29).
Ron Roybal of Colorado took the men's individual title with a time of 24:23, and Colorado claimed the men's team title.

Baylor's next competition will be the 1999 NCAA Regional, held in Denton on Nov. 13.
