Baylor Women Third at NCAA Regional

DENTON, Texas - The Baylor women placed third and the men came in 12th at the 1999 NCAA South Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Eagle Point Golf Course in Denton.
The top two men's and women's teams advanced to the NCAA Championships. In the women's race, Arkansas and Texas came in first and second, while Arkansas and Texas A&M advanced in the men's race.
The Baylor women's team was led by Karin Ernstrom, who came in third with a time of 17:04 for the 5000 meter course. Ernstrom finished 11 seconds behind individual winner Lilli Kleinmann of Arkansas.
Sarah Broyles also finished in the top 10 for the Bears, placing ninth with a time of 17:36.
Kara Newton was 15th with a time of 17:57, followed by Stephanie Bennett in 23rd (18:13) and Cecilia Jeverstam in 35th (18:42), rounding out the top five for Baylor.
Also running for the Bears were Erin Dixon (57th, 19:28) and Cynthia Henges (67th, 19:51).
The Baylor men finished 12th out of 14 schools, led by senior Brandon Buhr. Buhr placed 31st with a time of 32:55 for the 10,000 meter course.
Freshman Alex Adler came in second for the Bears in 52nd with a time of 33:50, followed by Corey Dunigan in 58th with a time of 34:04.
Jon Capron placed 61st (34:10), Aaron Ward came in 70th (34:35), and Brett Lamb finished 84th (35:57) in the final meet of the year for the Bears.
