SAN MARCOS, Texas - Mandy Hayworth scored 34 points to lead Baylor to a 87-62 win over Southwest Texas State in San Marcos Tuesday.
Hayworth hit 12-of-19 from the floor, including a school-record 9 three-pointers. The Lady Bears (2-3) piled up 13 treys on the night, another school record.
Baylor jumped to a 14-point lead at 23-9 when Hayworth hit a trey with 8:38 remaining in the first half. The Bears took that same margin when Hayworth nailed another three-pointer with three seconds in the half to make it 38-24.
Baylor came out on fire in the second half, hitting 56.7 percent from the floor. The Lady Bears ended with a 49.2 percent shooting night while holding the Bobcats to 38 percent. Baylor hit an amazing 61.9 percent from behind the three-point arc.
The Lady Bear lead went to 24 when Nicole Collins, who finished with seven points, hit a trey, making it 55-31 with 12:43 to play. Baylor led by as many as 27 points in the second half.
Brittany Bruns added 10 points and six rebounds. Hilary Akromis led BU in rebounding with seven.
Sarah Wagner led SWT (2-4) in scoring with 15 points, followed by Amber Morrow, who scored 13. Shawn Manning led all rebounders with 12.
