KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Lady Bears' basketball season ended in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament, thus the Hogg Era also ended.
A couple of weeks ago, head coach Sonja Hogg announced her retirement, effective at the end of the season, and that became a reality when the Lady Bears were eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City by Nebraska, 82-61.
"The thing I'll miss most about the game are the people," commented Hogg. "The player, the fans, the administration and the media have all been wonderful during my tenure here and I'm truly grateful. We're leaving the program in much better shape than we found it when we came in six years ago. The cupboard's definitely not bare."
Nebraska, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They forced 17 first-half turnovers, including 13 steals to take a 49-25 lead into the lockerroom at halftime. Althought Baylor outscored the Huskers in the second half 36-33, it was not enough to make up the deficit.
The Lady Bears were led by senior Mandy Haworth's 23 points which included five three-pointers. Monica Arnold was BU's only other player in double figures with 15 points, she also led Baylor in rebounding with seven.
The Lady Bears complete the 1999-2000 season with a 7-20 record overall and 2-14 in the Big 12.
