Baylor Beats Butler

DALLAS, Texas - The Baylor University volleyball team defeated Butler before falling to Southern Methodist to finish second at the SMU Invitational in Dallas.
Baylor (8-1) met up first with Butler on the day in the first match. After a quick Baylor point, Butler (3-5) came back with three straight highlighted by consecutive aces by Lynze Lysen.
The Bears stormed right back led by Elisha Polk and Kia Young, who accounted for most of the kills in the game. After going up 5-3, BU gave up another service ace and committed attacking errors to find themselves down 8-5.
However , the patient Baylor team struck back for a 15-11 win.
Butler came out firing in the second game, led by outside hitter Allison Cox, and jumped ahead 5-0. But the Baylor comeback kids took an 11-5 lead before allowing Butler to score again. The Bears cruised from there for a 15-8 win. This game victory came despite only 11 kills for BU, the second lowest one-game total on the season.
Once again, Baylor found themselves down 3-0 early in the game. And once again the Bears came back and outscored the Bulldogs 15-2 the rest of the way. This was the sixth straight-game victory in eight matches on the season for BU.
The win was the eighth in a row to start the season for Baylor, which is a new school record. The 1989 squad went 7-0 on their way to a 10-22 record.
