She is BU’s second freshman to win First Team All-Region
WACO, Texas – Baylor's standout freshman outside hitter Ksenia Rakhmanchik added another historic honor, earning AVCA First Team All-Region (Southwest) recognition on Tuesday.
The Minsk, Belarus, native is the 14th different player to earn all-region honors in the Ryan McGuyre era and only the second freshman in program history to be selected to the First Team, joining All-American Yossiana Pressley (2017).
Rakhmanchik's selection caps one of the most impressive freshman campaigns by a Baylor attacker. She finished the year with 367 kills, the second-most by a freshman in school history, while leading the Bears in kills, points and attempts in each of the final nine matches of the season.
She delivered four 20-plus kill performances, with three coming over the final month alone, including a program-record-tying 32 kills in Baylor's NCAA Tournament First Round win over Arkansas State. With that performance, she set the all-time freshman record for kills in an NCAA Tournament match.
Rakhmanchik posted double-digit kills in 18 matches, including Baylor's final nine contests of the year, while adding 174 digs and 47 blocks to round out a complete all-around profile. She was also a mainstay in the Big 12 weekly honor roll, winning Rookie of the Week three times and Offensive Player of the Week once. Her four weekly honors trailed only BYU's Suli Davis (6) for the most of any player in the conference.
Her First Team All-Region honor positions her for potential All-America recognition, which will be announced by the AVCA later this month.
