First-year Baylor Lady Bear head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson added another honor to her long list of accolades when she was named one of the 50 Top High School Athletes of the 20th Century.
The honor, bestowed upon her by Student Sports and the Women's Sports Foundation, is in celebration of National Girls and Women's in Sports Day which will be Feb. 7, 2000. The recipients were chosen based on their accomplishments in high school and for what they did after high school.
Mulkey-Robertson was a standout basketball player at Louisiana's Hammond High School. During her four-year career she scored 4,075 career points (a national record). As point guard, she led the basketball team to four-straight state championships while posting a 136-5 record. She earned all-district, all-state and all-American honors each of her four years at Hammond High. She also graduated as her class' valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is a member of the National High School Hall of Fame.
Mulkey-Robertson went on to enjoy an outstanding collegiate career at Louisiana Tech where she led to Lady Techsters to a 130-6 record, two national titles and four Final Fours. She also was a part of the USA's gold medal-winning teams at the 1984 Olympics and the 1983 Pan American Games. She graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana Tech in 1984.
Mulkey-Robertson, a 2000 inductee into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, became Baylor's fourth head coach in April 2000 after serving as an assistant coach and associate head coach for 15 seasons at Louisiana Tech.
In just her first season as a head coach Mulkey-Robertson has guided the Lady Bears to their first top 25 ranking in 23 years and a 13-2 record so far on the season, improving upon the team's 7-20 record of last year.
