Head Coach Dave Bliss
On the upcoming season:
"We are unbelievable inexperienced, but our talent level has increased. I think, in the end, we will end up being a better basketball team than we were at any point last season. We can't be as dependent on just two players like last season."
On wins over Kansas and Iowa State last season:
"If you get a team excited, then there's a chance that things can happen. You need a game where you overachieve and the crowd gets a chance to run on the floor. It is important to have games like that."
On having more depth this season:
"I've found more depth more difficult to coach. Along with a greater depth comes a greater responsibility in utilizing younger players."
On Wendell Greenleaf:
"He's really matured and done a great job. He has unbelievable courage and a great heart. All of the team's success will depend on him. When we play him at the point, we become a very strong basketball team."
On Bobby Knight:
"There are three things that you should never do. Spit into the wind, try to take the mask off of the Lone Ranger and underestimate the coaching ability of Bob Knight."
On coaching at Baylor:
"This is the best place that I have ever coached and it's in a wonderful league right now. It's exciting to be a part of a league that can be as good as the Big 12."
Forward Greg Davis:
On the expectations last year versus this year:
"I don't think people really expected a lot from us last year. We had a couple of upsets versus Kansas and Iowa State and people began to take notice. That is expected to carry over this year. We are hoping to get off to a good start this year and keep the ball rolling."
Transition for UNM to Baylor:
"Well along with Coach Bliss, we knee the program was definitely down. So we knew that following Coach Bliss could turn the program around. We expected to finish our careers on a good team and we are expecting that this year."
Guard Kevin Henry
On being called a mentor by teammate Greg Davis:
"Well I have been around awhile. Being one of the older guys, we do have a younger team, but there are good players so you get to work with them. With me having the experience I have, I hope to teach some guys things. It comes easy for me so hopefully the guys will pick up on thing I have learned over the years."
On excitement for next year:
"It has been a long year but I am really excited to get back out on the court. The team last year had some good wins and with me and some of the guys on the sidelines we couldn't play. Now with us being eligible we are ready to keep the ball rolling and go and have some big games like Kansas. We are hoping to do several of those things this year."
