WACO, Texas - Baylor head track and field coach Clyde Hart announced the signing of five athletes to National Letters of Intent to run for the Bears during the 2002-2003 track season. The Bears 2002 freshmen class consists of one of the best 800 runners in the nation and four top distance runners in the state.
Leading the way for the signing class of 2002 will be William Fitts out of Desoto High School in Desoto, Texas. Fitts also placed second in the 800 at the 2001 Texas state meet.
"William is one of the top 800 meter runners in the country. He comes in with the best 800 meter high school time in the country," said Hart. "We fully expect him to be our top 800 runner in the spring."
Lisa Cornelius, a 1600 and 3200 meter runner from Little Elm High School in Little Elm, Texas will also join the Bears in the fall. He was the 2000 4A cross country state champion, and was the runner up at this years' state championship meet. Morrow also owns personal-best times of 4:18 in the 1600, and 9:27 in the 3200.
