ATHENS, Ga. - After four straight wins to open the season, the 18th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team lost their first match of the year on Saturday, dropping a 6-1 decision on the road against No. 2 Georgia.
Baylor (4-1) earned its lone point by taking two of three doubles matches. The Bears have won 13 of 15 doubles matches this season and taken the doubles point in all five dual matches. Karin Andersson's doubles win at the No. 2 position tied her with Melissa Castro (1991-95) for fourth place in school history in career doubles wins with 61.
Georgia responded in singles, however, sweeping all six positions. Three Bears (Vida Mulec, Paola Stephen and Frida Borjesson) had four-match win streaks stopped by the Lady Bulldogs. Borjesson was the only Bear to win even a set in singles.
The Bears' next action begins Thursday as Baylor begins play at the National Team Indoors in Madison, Wisc. The elite team tournament continues through Sunday.
