#14 Women's Tennis Defeats #50 SMU

WACO, Texas - The 14th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team extended their winning streak, beating SMU 5-2 Thursday afternoon at Marrs McLean Tennis Courts.
The Bears (8-2, 2-0 Big 12) won doubles and took four singles matches to defeat the Mustangs. SMU lost its first match this year, putting their record at 3-1. Baylor has won 16 straight matches at home, dating back to April 1999. Since beginning Big 12 play in 1997, the Bears are 47-7 at home.
In doubles, Karin Andersson and Frida Borjesson won at No. 2 doubles, increasing their record to 9-1. Jahnavi Parekh and Paola Stephen suffered their first doubles loss.
Baylor's #26 Jahnavi Parekh defeated SMU's #10 Dee Dee Herring. Junior Katja Kovac, ranked No. 19 in the nation, took over second place alone in school history for career single wins with her victory at the No. 2 position. Kovac is now seven wins behind all-time leader Rachel Forney. The Mustangs' aggressive play allowed them to take two singles matches.
The Bears will host unranked Texas Tech on Saturday at 10 a.m.
