THE TEAMS...
Lady Bears, 16-6 overall and 5-6 in Big 12 play, come into Wednesday's game after posting their 10th home victory of the season, defeating Texas A&M 80-55. The Lady Bears are 10-2 in the Ferrell Center and 4-4 on the road. They are 1-4 on the road in Big 12 play, winning only at Kansas (85-80). Baylor is led by three players scoring in double figures. Sheila Lambert, a junior guard, leads the team and the Big 12 with 22.9 a game while right behind her is junior forward Danielle Crockrom's 21.5. Senior post Monica Arnold checks in at 10.9 a contest. Crockrom leads Big 12 Conference in rebounding with 12.6 a game.
The #18 Texas Longhorns are 18-7 on the season and 6-5 in Big 12 play. They are coming off an impressive 63-57 victory over Texas Tech in Lubbock. The win by the Lonhgorns broke Texas Tech's 41-game home court winning streak. Three Longhorns manage double-digit scoring averages. Sophomore guard Tai Dillard averages a team leading 10.8 points, freshman post Stacy Stephens scores 10.7 and JoRuth Woods, a senior guard, averages 10.5. Stephens is the team's top rebounder with 9.1 a contest.
Texas, 18th in both the AP and Coaches Poll, is 11-2 in the Erwin Center this season. Their two losses have been against Tennessee and Kansas.
THE COACHES...
Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson, in her first year as a head coach after 15 years as an assistant at Louisiana Tech, has guided the Lady Bears to a 16-6 record. A tremendous improvement over Baylor's 7-20 record of last season.
Texas' Jody Conradt, a Baylor grad, is in her 32nd season as a head coach and 25th year at Texas. She possesses a career record of 764-242 and is 647-180 at Texas. Conradt is the winningest coach in college women's basketball history.
SERIES RECORD...
Texas leads the series 47-10. Since the beginning of the BIg 12 Conference, the Longhorns hold a 6-3 series lead. All three of Baylor victories have come in the Ferrell Center. Baylor has posted only one victory in Austin, a 116-62 win on Jan. 21, 1975.
EARLIER THIS YEAR...
Danielle Crockrom, a junior forward, and freshman guard Jessika Stratton led the Lady Bears to a 73-51 victory over the Longhorns in the Ferrell Center on Jan 27. Crockrom produced her fourth 30-point and third 20-rebound efforts of the season when she scored 31 points and hauled down 20 boards against Texas. Stratton tied her career high in scoring with a 15 point performance. Texas had only one player in double figures, junior forward Tracy Cook posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
