WACO, Texas - Baylor's Athletic Department is kicking off a "Fight for the Finish" campaign to support the Lady Bear basketball team in their final two home games of the season.
According to Darryl Lehnus, Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing, "The Lady Bears have an opportunity to achieve several more 'firsts' this season and we want to do all we can to support them."
To achieve these 'firsts' several goals have been established and require extensive fan involvement.
- With a current record of 17-6, a turnaround from the 7-20 mark of last season, the Lady Bears are fighting for a first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
- The Lady Bears need 10,958 fans over the last two home games to break the all-time attendance mark. That record was set in the 1998-99 season which included four postseason contests.
- The Big 12 Conference is sponsoring a Million Fan March with the goal of becoming the first women's basketball conference to reach 1,000,000 fans. At this point the Lady Bears have had 43,891 fans pass through the turnstiles. Baylor has surpassed (29,000) their goal for the Million Fan March and was the first Big 12 school to achieve their goal.
- The Lady Bears currently rank 21st in the nation in home attendance. The goal is to rank among the top 20 in the nation at season's end.
Saturday's (Feb. 17) game against Missouri will be televised on FOX Sports Network at 3:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will be given gold t-shirts to wear. In addition, fans that already possess gold t-shirts are encouraged to wear them.
The last home game of the season, Feb. 28 against Kansas State will be Million Fan March night. One lucky fan will be chosen to as the "Honorary Millionth Fan" and will have the opportunity to win a trip to the Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament and to shoot for $100,000.
Other promotions for the Kansas State game include a pregame tent party with free food and drink and anyone wearing a gold t-shirt will be admitted free of charge.
