Baylor's Sheila Lambert was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week in a vote of a media panel for games played Feb. 19-25. The honor is Lambert's third Rookie of the Week selection and she was named Player of the Week earlier in the season.
Lambert, a 5-7 guard, led all scorers last week in road games at Oklahoma and Nebraska with 23 against the Sooners and 22 versus the Huskers. In addition, she dished out 11 assists and stole the ball nine times. Lambert averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals for the week. The Seattle, Wash., native was an impressive 84.6 percents (11-of-13) from the charity stripe and 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the floor.
Lambert leads the Baylor and the Big 12 in scoring (23.0 ppg) and ranks No. 4 nationally in scoring. On the season she averages 23.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.15 assists and 3.12 steals. She needs only eight more assists to break Baylor's single-season assist record. She currently has 160 on the season and Lara Webb's 167 during the 1998-99 season is the record.
In addition, Lambert is one of 10 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman-Cline Award honoring the nation's top collegiate point guard.
