In a three-for-one promotion, tickets from Saturday's baseball game will allow admission to both basketball games at the Ferrell Center Saturday night.
Baylor's women's basketball team will host Texas A&M Saturday at 8 p.m. in the second game of a double-header at the Ferrell Center. The game is the Lady's Bears' Family Night, with players' families in attendance.
THE TEAMS...
Saturday's game will feature the three top scorers in the Big 12. Texas A&M's Jaynetta Saunders leads the Big 12 in scoring with 23.0 points a game while Baylor's Sheila Lambert and Danielle Crockrom are right behind her at 22.9 and 21.9 respectively.
Also, The two squads rank #1 and #2 in the Big 12 in steals. The Lady Bears average 13.71 a game while the Aggies manage 13.67 a contest.
The Lady Bears, 15-6 overall and 4-6 in Big 12 play, come into Wednesday's game after losing their second home game of the season, a 67-56 defeat at the hands of #11/#10 Texas Tech. Baylor is led by three players scoring in double figures. Sheila Lambert, a junior guard, leads the team with 22.9 a game while right behind her is junior forward Danielle Crockrom's 21.9 a game. Senior post Monica Arnold checks in at 10.7 a contest. Crockrom leads the team and Big 12 Conference in rebounding with 12.7 a game.
The Texas A&M Aggies are 12-9 on the season and 2-8. Three Aggies manage double-digit scoring averages. Senior forward Jaynetta Saunders averages a team and league-leading 23.0 points, senior guard Brandi Jones scores 11.7 and LaToya Rose, a junior guard, averages 10.0. Saunders is also the team's top rebounder with 7.1 a contest.
Baylor is 9-2 in the Ferrell Center this season. Their two losses have been against Big 12 opponents, Oklahoma (90-87) and Texas Tech (67-56). The Aggies possess a 2-1 overall road record and are 0-5 in conference road play.
THE COACHES...
Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson, in her first year as a head coach after 15 years as an assistant at Louisiana Tech, has guided the Lady Bears to a 15-6 record. A tremendous improvement over Baylor's 7-20 record of last season.
Texas A&M's Peggie Gillom is in her 3rd season as a head coach, all at Texas A&M. She possesses a career record of 30-45. The Aggies 12 wins so far this season are just six shy of Gillom's winning record her first two years at Texas A&M (18).
SERIES RECORD...
Texas A&M leads the series 32-25 including an 87-81 victory in College Station on Jan. 20. The Aggies have won three straight meetings, prior to that Baylor had won six straight. The Lady Bears' last victory over the Aggies was on Feb. 3, 1999 in College Station.
EARLIER THIS YEAR...
In a game televised on FOX Sports Net, Texas A&M handed the Lady Bears their third loss of the season when they defeated Baylor 87-81 in College Station on Jan. 20. Baylor's Danielle Crockrom posted the best performance of her career with 41 points and 22 rebounds. Sheila Lambert was the only other Lady Bear in double-digits with 22 points. The duo accounted for 63 of Baylor's 81 points. For the Aggies four played scored in double figures with Jaynetta Saunders leading the way with a 34 point-11 rebound performance. LaToya Rose scored 18, Toccara Williams, 14 and Brandy Jones 13.
