SAN DIEGO - The 13th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team swept doubles and won four of six singles spots Monday to beat No. 63 San Diego, 5-2, extending the Bears' win streak to six.
The Bears (10-2, 3-0 Big 12) took all three doubles matches from the Toreros (5-4). Karin Andersson's victory at No. 2 doubles moved her into second place alone in program history for career doubles wins at 67, 10 behind record-holder Sophie Goldschmidt.
Andersson and Frida Borjesson together extended their doubles winning streak to six consecutive matches, tying for the third-longest such streak in Baylor history. Katja Kovac and Jahnavi Parekh, playing together for just the fourth time this season, won the top doubles spot. Vida Mulec and Monica Gonzalez took the courts together for the first time this season and emerged victorious at the No. 3 position.
Andersson earned her 84th career singles win, moving her into third place alone in school history in that category. She stands three wins behind teammate Katja Kovac, who claimed her 87th career victory Monday. Kovac sits five wins back of all-time leader Rachel Forney. Jahnavi Parekh also holds a place in the top 10 with 78 career singles wins.
Paola Stephen and Monica Gonzalez took the only defeats on the day as the Bears won the top four spots in the lineup.
The Bears' next action comes March 10th when they host Kansas. The match is set for 1:30 p.m. at the Streich Tennis Courts in Waco.
