Right hand pitcher Katie Decker is transferring to Baylor from Nebraska, Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced Wednesday.
Decker, a 5-10 sophomore from Englewood, Colo., posted an 8-1 record and a 1.09 earned run average for Nebraska last season. She struck out 58 and walked only 18 in 81.0 innings pitched.
Prior to competing at the collegiate level, Decker played for the Colorado Comets summer team that finished with a 264-45 record and two national runner-up finishes in the AFA 18-and-under division. She also helped the Comets to a ninth-place finish at the ASA Gold Nationals. She recorded a 0.82 ERA and a 174-32 record in four summers with the Comets. In addition, Decker was a four-year starter at Cherry Creek High School earning first-team all-conference honors each year. She produced a 0.64 ERA, a .398 batting average and a.475 slugging percentage for her high school career.
Due to the one-time transfer rule for softball, Decker will be eligible next season.
"Katie is a tremendous athlete with great potential. She will add depth to our pitching staff as well as being a power threat offensively. Katie comes to us with Big 12 championship experience under her belt, she knows what it takes to attain that top spot in the conference," said Moore.
