Middle infielder Kelly Levesque is transferring to Baylor from LSU, Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced Thursday.
Levesque, a 5-3 infielder from Sun City, Calif., appeared in 24 games as a freshman at LSU last season. The Tigers, SEC champions, made their first-ever appearance in the Women's College World Series, losing in the semifinals to UCLA.
Prior to entering college Kelly played summer ball for the Worth Firecrackers an ASA Gold squad. This summer she is playing for the Phoenix Firestorm, a women's major team.
Levesque attended Paloma Valley High School in southern California where she was a three-sport athlete, lettering in softball, soccer and volleyball. She was named first-team all-Sunbelt League and all-Riverside County in softball and was named PVHS's Student of the Year her senior year.
Due to the one-time transfer rule for softball, Levesque will be eligible next season.
"Kelly is a middle infielder with speed, quickness and great bat control. We look for her to give us depth at shortstop. Having been with LSU to the College Softball World Series, Kelly knows the commitment and dedication necessary to get to that elite level," said Moore. "Both Kelly and Katie Decker, who is transferring to Baylor from Nebraska, are great students as well as athletes and will fit into our system nicely."
