Catcher Danelle Arnold is transferring to Baylor from Nebraska, Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced Wednesday.
Arnold, a 5-5 sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo., started in 63 of the Huskers' 66 games and maintained a .246 batting average and .404 slugging percentage. She hit eight doubles and seven home runs on the season. Her seven home runs ranked second on the team while her doubles ranked her fourth. Arnold was steady on defense also, maintaining a .989 fielding average with only one error in 92 chances. As a freshman she played right field and catcher.
Prior to competing at the collegiate level, Arnold played for the Colorado Comets summer team that finished with a 264-45 record and two national runner-up finishes in the AFA 18-and-under division. She also helped the Comets to a ninth-place finish at the ASA Gold Nationals. She is also playing for the Comets this summer. Arnold earned four letters in softball at Fort Collins High School and led the Lambkins to the 1998 Class 5A state title. She was twice named first-team all-state.
Due to the one-time transfer rule for softball, Arnold will be eligible next season.
"Danelle is a great catcher and a tremendous hitter. She has passion for the game and will provide the leadership we need behind the plate. She and Katie Decker (another transfer from Nebraska) will bring Big 12 championship experience to the Lady Bear softball program," said Moore.
