WACO, Texas - Fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2001 edition of the Baylor women's volleyball team here Saturday at 7:30 p.m. as the Bears hold their annual Green and Gold Match in the Ferrell Center. Baylor is coming off a 16-15 campaign, in which the Bears posted the second-highest conference win total in school history.
However, the action on the court will not be the only attraction of the evening. There will be a Cub Club meeting in the Ferrell Center from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at which children ages 5 to 14 will have the opportunity to become a Cub Club member. Fans will have a chance to meet the Baylor players and receive free Dr Pepper.
Head coach Brian Hosfeld, who is entering his sixth season at the helm of the Baylor program, will hold a question-answer session with fans during the match. Hosfeld will also explain the various rule and scoring changes for the 2001 season.
"This should be an exciting evening for the fans and for the team," Hosfeld said. "Fans will have the opportunity to meet our players and to learn more about the game of volleyball."
Baylor will begin the regular season next weekend at the Nokia Sugar Bowl Tournament hosted by Tulane University in New Orleans, La. The Bears will open the campaign Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. against Nevada-Las Vegas with matches against Louisiana State and the host Green Wave the following day.
