Men's Tennis Shines in Baylor Intercollegiates

Eight of the nine Baylor players playing in the Gold Division of the Baylor Intercollegiates advanced past the first round of 64 and four made it to the round of 16 in first day action at the Baylor Tennis Center on Thursday, Sept. 27.
Baylor head coach Matt Knoll couldn't be more pleased with the team's performance on the first day of competition. "We had a very good day to start off the tournament. Eight of nine of our players won first round matches and the one who lost took the number one seed in the tournament to a third set. We showed that we're going to compete hard," Knoll said.
Armando Carrascosa, Nathan McGregor, Zoltan Papp, Cory Ross, Markus Hornung, Reiner Neurohr and Benjamin Becker all won first round matches in the gold bracket while Mike Garcia was a winner in the green bracket. Matias Marin took the tournament's top seed Jean Simon of Texas to a third set before losing 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. Carrascosa, Papp, Neurohr and Becker all advanced to the round of 16.
In doubles the teams of Becker-Papp, McGregor-Ross, and Hornung-Neurohr all were victorious while Carrascosa and Marin dropped their match.
