LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Freshman April Robertson scored her first two collegiate goals Friday night, providing all the offense the Bears would need as the Baylor soccer team slipped past Loyola Marymount, 2-1.

Robertson's second goal of the night came with under four minutes to go. Midfielder Whitney Barrett redirected an indirect kick to Robertson, who scored the game-winning goal in her first collegiate start.

The Bears (2-1) defeated LMU (1-2) even though the Lions controlled the offense for most of the second half. Baylor finished with only one shot on goal in the second half compared to LMU's nine, but the Bears made the most of that shot to give them the gamewinner.

Robertson got the scoring going just 6:15 into the game, when she recorded her first collegiate score by lifting a shot into the wind that hung over the outstretched hands of LMU goalie Elizabeth Skhal and dropped into the net.

The Bears took that lead into the half, but LMU came back to tie the game midway through the second period. Forward Jill Dobens' deflected shot off Baylor's sophomore goalkeeper Emily Koch went in to tie the score at the 66:01 mark. That score held for 20 minutes before Robertson pushed across the deciding goal.

Koch proved to be the saving force for the Bears on defense, recording seven saves on the night while allowing just the one goal.

Baylor's next action comes Sunday, as the Bears head south down the West Coast to face San Diego. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
