WACO, Texas - Baylor Baseball concluded Fall Practice with a single game between the Gold Team (veterans) and the Green Team (newcomers) after the last two games were rained out.
Junior David Murphy finished the fall as the team's leader in hits (20 in 13 games) and average (.426). Sophomore Josh Ford led the team in home runs (three) and hit .417 while tying Murphy for the team lead with 11 RBI.
Senior Jared Theodorakos concluded the season with a team-best 0.64 ERA in 14 innings, striking out 18. Senior Steven White struck out 29 batters in 22 innings with a 1.23 ERA, while freshman Russell Reichenbach struck out 19 and walked only two in 21.1 innings.
The squad did complete 13 games out of the scheduled 15 fall practices. The Bears will continue working out several hours a week for the rest of the fall, primarily focusing on strength and conditioning.
Head coach Steve Smith summed up the intrasquads:
"Overall, I thought the fall was very productive. We got to see a number of players in different positions on the field. I think we have a good idea of what we need to work on over the next couple of months. There is a lot of competition on this team which made for some very good intrasquad games. I couldn't be more pleased with the overall work ethic and attitude at this point."
The 2003 season kicks off for Baylor Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. when the Bears host Southwest Texas at Baylor Ballpark.
