Volleyball Falls at Texas Tech 3-1

LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite 22 kills from Tisha Schwartz and 14 kills from Stella Odion, Baylor dropped a 30-32, 30-21, 30-20, 30-19 decision to Texas Tech here Wednesday night in Big 12 Conference volleyball action. The Bears fall to 9-17 on the season and 2-13 in conference action. The Red Raiders improve to 11-13 and 6-9.

Schwartz finished one dig shy of her sixth double-double with nine digs. Odion hit .500 (14-1-26) on the night, but she was the only Bear with at least 10 attacks to hit above .215. Laura Daniela Lloreda added nine kills and a match-high 18 digs, and Emily Huston had eight kills, 16 assists and 11 digs. Jillian Mazzarella led the Bears with 28 assists, and Alison Heffner led Baylor with three blocks.

Baylor hit on all cylinders offensively in game one and made use of several Texas Tech errors. The Bears hit .279 (18-6-43) in the opener. Odion led all players with six errorless kills in eight swings (.750), while Schwartz and Huston added five kills each.

However, Baylor cooled off after the first game, hitting .184 in game two, .051 in game three and .070 in game four. Meanwhile, Texas Tech picked up its offensive attack and found holes in Baylor's defense. The Red Raiders finished the night hitting .267 as a team. Three Raiders finished with at least 10 kills, led by Kelly Johnson's 21.

Baylor returns home Saturday for a 7 p.m. CST match against Kansas at the Ferrell Center. The Jayhawks defeated the Bears in three games last month at Lawrence, Kan.
