Lady Bears Win Exhibition Opener

WACO, Texas - Sophomore Steffanie Blackmon shot 9-for-16 from the floor and hit 11-of-14 from the free-throw line to lead the Lady Bears with 29 points in Baylor's 83-63 exhibition victory over the Houston Jaguars in the Ferrell Center on Tuesday.

Blackmon also grabbed 11 rebounds to record a double-double in her 38 minutes on the court. Sophomore Jordan Davis added 21 points, including going 3-of-5 from behind the arc, and junior Jessika Stratton scored 13, as well as dishing out a game-high six assists, as the Lady Bears rolled past the Jaguars.

After starting preseason action 0-8 from the floor and allowing the visitors to jump out to a 5-0 lead, the Lady Bears stormed back. At the 15:29 mark in the first half, head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson's squad stifled the Jaguar offense while going on an offensive tear of its own. The Lady Bears went on a 26-2 run, hitting their stride while holding the Jags virtually scoreless for more than 10 minutes. Baylor took a 37-21 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Bears continued with the stellar offense in the second half shooting an incredible 57.1 percent (12-21)from the floor. For the game the Baylor squad hit 48.2 percent (27-56)of its shots while holding the Jaguars to 32.2 percent (19-59)shooting.

The Lady Bears return to the court on Thursday, Nov. 14 when they host RTU-Klondiaka, a team from Latvia, that is one of the top women's teams in the Baltic Region.
