BATON ROUGE, La. - Led by the men sweeping the top-three spots in the 400 meter race Baylor's track and field team had another solid outing at the LSU-hosted Purple Tiger Invitational Saturday.
Freshman Darold Williamson won the 400-meter race for the second consecutive week posting a time of 47.90. Teammates Zsolt Szeglet and Michael Smith followed, finishing second and third with times of 48.54 and 48.57, respectively. Jim Autenreith was the only other Bear to win an event, clearing 16-6 ? in the pole vault to take top honors.
Other men grabbing top finishes for Baylor included Kyle King, who finished second in the mile with a 4:11.57 clocking, and the 4x400 relay team who also placed second with a time 3:18.21.
On the women's side Lanie Millar and the 4x400 relay team where the only Bears to run to top-three finishes. Millar finished second in the 800 with a mark of 2:11.31, while the 4x400 relay team placed third with a time of 3:48.43. The Baylor women also had two athletes, in Debbie Thornhill and Rachal Roessler, finish fourth in their respective events. Thornhill ran the mile in 5:00.85 and Roessler launched the weight throw 52-9 ? feet.
The Baylor track and field team will return to action next weekend when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Tyson Invitational Feb. 1-2.
