10 Track Athletes Named To Academic All-Big 12 Team

WACO, Texas - 10 Baylor track athletes where named to the Academic All-Big 12 team it was announced today by the conference office. The Lady Bears landed eight student-athletes on the Big 12's first-team, while two student-athletes from the men's side earned second-team honors.
The conference office recognized 246 track student-athletes for their academic success this year. Sophomore Megan McCoin was just one of 13 athletes mentioned for maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
A complete list of Baylor first-team honorees includes, Jordan Willmann (business), Kara Newton (history), Lanie Millar (English and Spanish), Stephanie Bennett (biology), Erin Dixon (nutrition science), Katherine Duncan (undecided), Leah Marbach (child and family studies), and Megan McCoin (undecided). Second-team accolades where given to Jon Capron (human performance) and Zsolt Szeglet (computer science).
To qualify student-athletes must maintain 3.2 or better grade point average for first-team honors and a 3.0-3.19 GPA for second-team recognition either cumulatively or over the previous two semesters. Student-athletes must have also participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible, while seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
The Baylor track and field team will travel to Columbia, Mo. for the sixth Big 12 Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend, May 17-19, at the Audrey J. Walton Track Complex.
