WACO, Texas - The Baylor pitching staff held Dallas Baptist to just six hits Saturday afternoon to win game one of a doubleheader at Baylor Ballpark, 4-1.

Unlike Friday night, the 15th-ranked Bears (33-17) were able to shut down the bats of Dallas Baptist (35-14) on Saturday. The Patriots started the weekend with a team batting average of .369 and pounded out 11 hits in game one of the series Friday.

Starter Steven White (5-2) picked up his first win in over a month, allowing five hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings. The junior walked four and struck out only two, but earned his first victory since March 29 against Oklahoma.

Baylor pushed across single runs in the second, third, fifth and eighth innings. In the second, three straight singles led to a run as Ron Zboril singled in Paul Richmond from third.

In the next frame, it was another two-out single that plated the Bears' second run. Tim Hartshorn hit his first of two doubles on the day, and David Murphy's base knock brought home the senior to put Baylor up 2-0.

Hartshorn doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Huggins to push the margin to three runs before Dallas Baptist tallied its only run of the day. The Patriots put runners on first and third with two outs after a double, two walks and a caught stealing. White's second walk of the inning was the last batter he faced, as Justin Taylor was brought in out of the bullpen. Taylor gave up a single to the first batter he faced, scoring the runner from third, before striking out the final batter of the inning.

The Bears' final run came in the eighth, when Trey Webb singled home Michael Griffin from second with two outs.

Taylor pitched through the ninth, striking out five and allowing just the one hit and one walk in 2 1/3 innings before Kyle Edens was brought in for the ninth. Edens retired the side in order with one strikeout for his Big 12-leading 12th save of the year.

Griffin finished the game with three hits to pace the Baylor offense, which recorded 11 hits as a team.

Starter Aaron Gravis went the distance on the mound for Dallas Baptist, allowing four runs (all earned) in eight innings. Gravis struck out seven Bears and walked four.

The two teams finish out the series with game two of the doubleheader Saturday at 5:30 pm..
