VEJLBY, Denmark - Six players scored in double-digits as the Big 12 All-Stars pushed their record to 5-0 with a 98-80 win over the Bakken Bears Tuesday at the Vejlby-Risskov Gymnasium in Vejlby, Denmark.
"This was the best crowd we've played in front of and there was a lot of excitement around the game," Baylor head coach Dave Bliss said of the approximate 620 energetic Danes on hand. "There is no doubt that having been on the road for over a week now you get a little bit leg weary and I thought that attributed to a little bit of our slow start."
The Big 12 All-Stars again broke open a tight game with a big second quarter push, this time a 9-0 run to start the second period. Ahead 24-23 after the first, a 3-pointer by Missouri's Travon Rush, followed by field goals by Iowa State's Jake Sullivan, Oklahoma's Quannas White and Kansas' Bryant Nash gave the Big 12 a 33-23 lead a minute and a half into the quarter.
"We got good scoring out of Pervis Pasco on the inside and our outside game was effective, especially Will Chavis and Jake Muhleisen," Bliss said. "Quannas (White) had another fine game with six assists and Lawrence Roberts had five assists and six rebounds and played really well at both forward positions."
Pasco, a senior from Kansas State, lead the All-Stars with team-highs of 14 points and seven rebounds. Chavis, a senior from Texas Tech, scored a tour-high 12 points and recorded four steals. Also in scoring in double-digits for the Big 12 were Muhleisen (13), Ivan McFarlin (12), Bryant (11) and Blair Wilson (11).
The Big 12 All-Stars, consisting of one player from each conference school, conclude their six-game, 11-day Scandinavian tour Thursday against Malbas BBC in Malmo, Sweden.
"This sets the stage for our last game," Bliss said, "and since none of the teams have ever finished with a perfect record that's certainly our goal."
This is the third Big 12 men's all-star team. In 1998 former Texas Tech coach James Dickey led the All-Stars to a 4-2 record in England, France, Belgium and Germany. In 2000 Colorado's Ricardo Patton and the Big 12 squad finished 5-1 in Austria.
