FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Baylor women's golf team entered the final round of the Ram/Ptarmigan Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado today tied with host Colorado State. The Bears out-shot the Rams by ten strokes to take the title. After shooting opening rounds of 293 and 291, the Bears carded a 292 in the final round for a total score of 876 at the 6,036-yard, 72-par Ptarmigan Country Club. Colorado State came in second with 886, followed by Nevada and Nebraska at 896. Denver recorded a team total of 897 to round out the top five in the 17-team tournament.
After opening the tournament with a one under par 71, senior Melanie Hagewood posted an even-par 72 in the second round to tie for fourth after day one. Hagewood carded her second straight even par round today to finish the tournament at 1-under 215. She finished in a three-way tie for third place. Nebraska's Sarah Sasse and Colorado State's Lynette Duran each accumulated totals of 209 to tie for the tournament title, but Sasse was declared the medallist after a playoff.
Junior Michaelyn Morgan also recorded a Top 10 finish for the Bears. She carded her best round of the season, a 1-under par 71, to improve to a tie for eighth place. Junior Kelli McKandless (72-74-76) and senior Hanna-Sofia Svenningson (74-75-73) each took a share of 11th place with tournament totals of 222. Newcomer Erin Bradford (79-72-80) finished 32nd with a total score of 231.
The Bears, who took two fall tournament titles in 2001, hope to continue posting stellar scores when they travel to the Comcast-Dick McQuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. on Sept. 26-28.
