Jay Goble enters his 15th season as head coach of the Baylor women’s golf program in 2025-26, building Baylor into one of the nation’s top programs, taking the Bears to unprecedented heights over his decade and a half in Waco.

Goble has coached the only 10 All-Americans in program history to 24 different All-America honors. He led Baylor to its first conference championship, first NCAA Regional title, first No. 1 national ranking, and the only three top-10 NCAA Championship finishes in program history. He’s led the Bears to 23 team tournament championships and 21 individual tournament titles over his first 14 seasons.

Ten of Goble’s teams have advanced to the NCAA Championship including seven of the last eight that have been played (2020 was canceled because of COVID-19). All told, Baylor has advanced to 12 of 13 possible NCAA Regionals and 10 of 14 possible NCAA Championships during his tenure.

Additionally, Goble has coached 23 different players to 33 total Big 12 All-Tournament Team honors and 15 different players to a total of 26 All-Big 12 team selections. He coached the program’s first Big 12 Player of the Year and twice guided BU players to Big 12 Freshman of the Year recognition. Twelve Baylor players have won 15 total Big 12 Golfer of the Month awards during his tenure. He’s had 37 different players named to the Academic All-Big 12 Teams a total of 73 times with at least five honorees 12 of his 13 seasons, and 19 different players have earned WGCA All-American Scholar Team recognition a total of 37 times. At least one Bear has been named a WGCA All-American Scholar in each of Goble’s first 13 seasons, including multiple selections in each of the last 10 years.

Baylor has played in eight-straight NCAA Regionals advancing to the NCAA Championship in seven of those seasons, while also finishing runner-up finish in 2015. Goble has led BU to the only three top-10 NCAA Championship finishes in program history.

the 2024-25 team continued its strong run of success, becoming one of just seven programs to reach the NCAA Championship in seven of the last eight full seasons. Despite missing one of the best players in school history, Sera Hasegawa, the Bears advanced out of an NCAA regional as a No. 7 seed for the second straight year—making them the only No. 7 seed to reach the NCAA Championship multiple times since regional expansion in 2022. The team also extended its streak by winning a team event for a seventh-consecutive season, capturing the PDI Intercollegiate with a 30-under 834—marking the third-best team score in school history. With Baylor returning to La Costa, senior BaiMai Seema joined Rosie Belsham as the only players in program history to compete in four NCAA Championships.

in 2023-24, Goble and the Bears battled tooth and nail to reach a fourth-straight NCAA Championship. Following a bit of a slow spring the Bears were ranked No. 63 on February 28th, but climbed 29 spots in a two-month span to reach No. 34 entering the NCAA Championship. A dominant stretch over the season's final couple of months included a 45-13-0 head-to-head record and a stroke-play victory at the Veritex Bank Texas Showdown. A No. 7 seed in the NCAA Las Vegas Regional, The Bears beat the field average by over 11 shots in the final round to secure a third-place finish and become one of eight teams to make six of the last seven NCAA Championships'. Freshman Ashleen Kaur and junior Sera Hasegawa starred for the Bears, finishing tied for fourth, the second time in three years BU had multiple players finish in the top-5 in an NCAA Regional. A win in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, gave Goble 22 wins in his tenure, extending his lead as the program's all-time winningest coach. Rosie Belsham took home medalist honors on the island, the 21st individual title since Goble's arrival in Waco.

The 2022-23 season was another filled with impressive performances for both the team and individual players. Rosie Belsham (WGCA), Sera Hasegawa (WGCA, GW) and Silje Ohma (GW) claimed All-America honors, marking the first time in program history in which BU boasted three different All-Americans in the same season. That same trio landed on the All-Big 12 team giving the Bears multiple representatives on the all-conference team for the third-straight season. The year also included multiple Big 12 Golfers of the Month, as Sera Hasegawa claimed the award in October of 2022 and Rosie Belsham nabbed it February of 2023. It was the fourth time in program history that multiple players won Big 12 monthly awards, all four times happening under Goble's direction.

The year began with a bang as freshman Silje Ohma tied a program record with a final-round 65 at the Schooner Fall Classic helping the Bears to a fifth-place finish in Norman. Another newcomer Sera Hasegawa showed her potential with a pair of top-10 finishes (t-7th at the Stanford Intercollegiate and t-6th at the Battle at the Beach) to carry the Bears into the winter break.

After a solid showing to open the spring at the Match in the Desert, the Bears put together an impressive performance south of the border at the Collegiate Invitational with a 10-shot win over Florida State at Guadalajara Country Club. With the win, Goble led the team to victory for a fifth-straight season and a 10th time in 12 seasons. Baylor followed up the win with a solid performance at the T. Hession Regional Challenge, which set up for a solid finish to the regular season. The Bears tallied a fifth-straight top-three finish at the Big 12 Tournament (2nd) landing Silje Ohma and Hannah Karg on the All-Tournament team, the third-straight year with multiple all-tournament team representatives.

Sent to the great Northwest and Pullman, Washington, BU advanced to its fifth NCAA Championship in six years with a fourth-place finish at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. The Bears became one of just eight schools to participate in five of the previous six NCAA Championships. In the third and final year at Grayhawk Golf Club, the Bears missed the fourth-round cut by two shots and carded a 17th place finish. In his eight NCAA Championship appearances under Goble, the Bears have never finished lower than 18th.

BU notched another strong year under Goble in 2021-22, resulting in a sixth NCAA Championship appearance on the strength of a 14-shot win in the NCAA Stillwater Regional at Karsten Creek. The win was the second regional title in Goble’s tenure, BU’s fourth-straight win by 12-plus shots. The No. 3 seed Bears shot a 54-hole total of 865, the second-best postseason score in program history. Gurleen Kaur, Rosie Belsham and Britta Snyder all tied for second with 2-under 214’s.

The Bears opened the postseason with a tie for second at the Big 12 Championship, with Addie Baggarly and Rosie Belsham securing All-Tournament Team honors with a second and seventh place finish, respectively. The tie for second was BU’s fourth-straight top-three finish at the Big 12 Championship.

Baylor closed the regular season with a 12-shot win at the Bruzzy Challenge at Waterchase Golf Club. The Bears led the field with seven eagles en route to a 21-under 843, the seventh-best score relative to par in program history.

BU blew away the field in its first win of the season, a 30-shot victory at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The Bears swept the top-three spots, and Kaur set a program record with her fourth career win.

Kaur was named to the Golfweek and WGCA All-America Second Team, becoming the first player in program history to win All-America honors in four seasons. Kaur was one of three players to make the All-Big 12 team, joining Belsham and Snyder, the most All-Big 12 selections in a single season in program history.

In 2020-21 BU rose to No. 1 in the country for the first time in program history on the strength of five-straight wins part of a school-record six wins on the season. The Bears set two tournament scoring records in 2020-21. They shot a seven-under 833 to open the season at the Schooner Fall Classic. They bested that mark a couple months later with a 38-under par 826 at the Lone Star Invitational.

Gurleen Kaur was named a Golfweek All-American becoming just the second three-time All-American in program history. Kaur was also named to the All-Big 12 Team, joining freshman Britta Snyder on the 2021 team.

Goble’s 2019-20 squad was ranked No. 20 nationally and on its way to a likely fourth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance when the season was cut short on March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bears finished in the top-half of the field in all eight tournaments, including a title at the SMU/DAC Invitational, where Diane Baillieux won her career-first medalist honor.

Kaur and Elodie Chapelet earned honorable mention All-America honors, marking the third time Goble has coached multiple players to All-America recognition in the same season. Chapelet became Baylor’s seventh All-American in program history, and Kaur joined Hayley Davis as the only Bears to earn the recognition in multiple seasons.

The 2018-19 Bears extended Baylor’s streak to three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances by earning the No. 8 seed at the East Lansing Regional. Baylor recorded a trio of top-three finishes during the season, including a third-place result at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, a tournament title at the Bruzzy Challenge and a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. Kaur won her career-first medalist honor by tying for the individual title at the Bruzzy Challenge.

Baylor’s 2017-18 squad earned the fifth NCAA Championship berth in program history and finished tied for eighth in stroke play before falling to the eventual national champions in a playoff for the final match play berth. BU earned its 2018 NCAA Championship berth by finishing in a tie for third place at the NCAA Austin Regional, including a dramatic push through a team-wide stomach virus in the final round that forced one BU player to withdraw midway through the round.

Goble helped early-enrollee freshman Kaur become the fifth All-American in program history when she was tabbed as an honorable mention choice by Golfweek despite playing only 19 rounds. Three BU players earned Big 12 All-Tournament Team recognition, with Kaur joined by junior Maria Vesga and freshman Baillieux.

The 2016-17 Baylor squad returned to the NCAA Championship for the fourth time in program history and advanced to the match play quarterfinals, becoming one of five teams nationally to make match play twice between 2015 and 2017. BU took fourth place at the NCAA Athens Regional and seventh place in NCAA Championship stroke play. Baylor faced Stanford in a rematch of the 2015 national title match, and the Bears again fell in the quarterfinal match, 3-2.

Goble guided junior Amy Lee to a program-record 72.17 stroke average in 2016-17, helping her become Baylor’s first Big 12 Player of the Year and the fifth All-American in program history. Sophomore Dylan Kim won the Big 12 Championship individual title, and freshman Fiona Liddell joined Kim on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. The success carried over into the classroom, where for a fourth consecutive season the Bears had at least three players named WGCA?All-American Scholars – Maggie Beth Byers, Kim and Liddell.

Baylor’s 2015-16 team played one of the nation’s toughest schedules and narrowly missed earning an NCAA Tournament berth for an eighth consecutive season. Laura Lonardi posted a 72.39 stroke average, which was second-best in a season in school history, helping her become the fourth Baylor player to earn All-America honors. Lonardi competed as an individual and took fifth place in the NCAA Bryan Regional, making her the first player in program history to advance through NCAA Regionals to the NCAA Championship while competing as an individual.

A school-record five players picked up 2016 WGCA All-America Scholar recognition, with Byers, Lonardi, Giovana Maymon, Natalia Perez and Lauren Whyte all recognized. Additionally, Lonardi repeated as the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a second straight season.

Goble’s 2014-15 squad easily claimed the title of best team in program history. In addition to claiming three tournament titles – Northrup?Grumman Regional Challenge, Big 12 Championship and NCAA?San Antonio Regional – the team also finished as the national runner-up after falling to Stanford in a sudden death playoff during the NCAA?Championship title match.

For his efforts,?Goble was named 2015 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year and WGCA Central?Region Coach of the Year. The 2014-15 squad was led by a pair of All-Americans and All-Big 12 selections in Hayley?Davis and Kim, with Davis picking up her third career All-America honor and becoming the first player in program history named to the All-America first team. Davis and Kim were joined by Lonardi to give the Bears three Big 12 All-Tournament Team honorees, and Kim was selected Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

In his third year, Goble led Baylor to a tournament title at the 2014 Dallas Athletic Club Invitational, and the Bears finished in third place at the Big 12 Championship. Following the season, BU had three players named WGCA All-American Scholars – Lonardi, Byers and?Perez.

Goble led the 2013-14 team to within two strokes of another championship berth with a 10th-place finish at the 2014 NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla.

The 2012-13 team took first at the Hurricane Invitational and placed second at four more tournaments (Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, Tar Heel Invitational, Rebel Intercollegiate and Big 12 Conference Championship). The second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship was the best in program history at the time.

Goble guided freshman Lauren Taylor to the conference’s Freshman of the Year award, All-America honorable mention and two Big 12 Golfer of the Month selections. Davis repeated as an All-American, and she joined Taylor in earning All-Big 12 recognition, and Perez was named a WGCA All-American Scholar.

Goble led the Bears within a stroke of earning an NCAA?Championship berth after a ninth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA West Regional in Stanford, Calif.

In his first year in Waco, Goble led the Lady Bears to what was then the best season in program history and coached the program’s first All-American, Davis.

Goble’s first BU squad tied for 16th at the 2012 NCAA Championship in Franklin, Tenn., topping the previous best finish in program history. The 2011-12 team also earned three tournament wins -- the Dick McGuire Invitational, Price’s “Give `Em’ Five” Intercollegiate and the Rebel Intercollegiate -- and had three more top-three finishes. Additionally, two Baylor golfers earned All-Big 12 honors (Chelsey Cothran, Davis), two garnered NGCA All-West Region accolades (Davis, Jaclyn Jansen) and two were named Big 12 Golfers of the Month (Davis, Jansen).

After finishing third at the 2012 Big 12 Championship (matching then-best in program history), Baylor broke school NCAA Regional records for 18-, 36- and 54-hole lows on its way to tying for fifth at the NCAA West Regional in Erie, Colo. The regional performance was enough to earn the second NCAA Championship berth in program history.

Goble arrived in Waco after three seasons as the assistant coach at Southeastern Conference power Florida. Goble also previously served as an instructor at the prestigious IMG David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Prior to coming to Baylor, Goble helped Florida to a 10th-place (tie) finish at the 2011 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships in College Station, Texas. It marked the program’s 18th top 10 national finish all-time, its highest since a ninth-place showing in 2008, and allowed the tradition-rich program a return to the national spotlight after missing the NCAA field the previous two seasons. Florida finished among the top 10 at nine of 12 tournaments it competed in during the 2010-11 season, including four top-10 finishes and a victory in its own 17-team SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational.

The 2009-10 UF women’s golf team claimed five top-five finishes and only finished outside of the top 10 in two of its 12 tournaments, thanks in part to Goble’s coaching. The Gators claimed the team title at the Central District Invitational, marking their first tournament win in over a year, and posted a team stroke average of 75.7.

Goble’s tenure at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy proved to be a valuable asset to the Florida program in recruiting, as five members of the Gators’ 2010-11 roster attended the Academy. He mentored All-American and All-SEC selection Jessica Yadloczky and All-SEC freshman team member Evan Jensen.

In addition to his UF coaching duties, Goble served as the Junior Golf Academy Director for the Gators’ program. In this role, he helped make the junior golf academies among the nation’s finest.

Goble, who worked at Leadbetter from 2004 until joining the UF staff on July 1, 2008, has also served as Golf Professional at The Club at Olde Cypress in Naples, Fla., and The Preserve Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.

A four-year scholarship player at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1996 to 2000, Goble played on numerous professional tours throughout the Southeast United States as well as U.S. Open qualifiers. In 2003, Goble claimed a 72-stroke scoring average in the Southwest Florida chapter of the PGA.

The Charlotte, N.C., native is married to the former Jamie Lowe, and they have a son, Gannon.
