Two Netters Advance to Title Match

WACO, Texas - Two Baylor players, a veteran and a newcomer, will meet in the championship match of the H.E.B. Baylor Intercollegiates Tournament on Monday at the Baylor Tennis Center at the Turner Riverfront Complex. Senior Zoltan Papp will face off against newcomer Benedikt Dorsch at 3:00 p.m. on Monday in the finals.
To get to the finals, third-seeded Papp beat Texas A&M's Lester Cook (7-6, 7-5) then knocked off teammate and the tournament's top seed Benjamin Becker 7-4, 6-4. En route to the championship match, Dorsch, a sophomore, eliminated Wake Forest's Dj Spice (6-3, 6-3) and defeated another Wake Forest player David Loewenthal, seeded fourth, 6-1, 6-1. In the "A" singles consolation bracket, Baylor freshman Ivor Lovrak moved into the finals and will play Texas' Jimmy Haney on Monday at noon.
In "A" doubles, both Baylor teams lost their quarterfinal matches. Dorsch and Matias Marin lost to Ryan Haymond and Allistair Jenkin of Texas 8-5 and Becker and Papp lost to another Texas duo, Jimmy Haney and Peter Stroer, 8-4.
In "B" singles results freshman Jason Gould played David Knaszak of Texas Tech in the semifinals and won 6-4, 6-4. Gould fell in the finals to UT-Arlington's Niels Buksik 7-6, 6-2. Baylor junior Mike Garcia captured the "B" singles consolation crown. He defeated Oliver Steil of UT-Pan American (6-3, 6-3) then was named the bracket winner when UT-Arlington's Alon Goldshuv withdrew due to injury.
