Volleyball Sweeps Ole Miss, UALR

WACO, Texas - Tisha Schwartz tallied 29 kills and hit .317 on the day as Baylor posted 3-0 victories over Mississippi and Arkansas-Little Rock here Friday in first-day action of the 12th Baylor Classic. The Bears clipped Mississippi 30-22, 30-19, 30-24 and blanked UALR 30-24, 30-20, 30-23.
With the wins, Baylor improves to 2-3 on the season, winning their fifth and sixth consecutive Baylor Classic matches.
Schwartz blistered Mississippi for 16 kills and four blocks while hitting at a .323 clip. Stevie Nicholas chipped in with 16 kills and four blocks of her own to go along with a match-high 15 digs. The Bears hit .297 as a team, while holding the Lady Rebels to a .081 attacking percentage. Baylor also out-blocked Ole Miss 8-3.
Baylor's offensive production got even stronger against UALR as Schwartz (13), Nicholas (12) and Stella Odion (10) all reached double figures in kills. Odion recorded her first career double-double, registering a match-high 11 digs.
Nicholas victimized the Lady Trojans with eight service aces, one shy of the Big 12 record that she owns along with fellow Bear Laura Daniela Lloreda. Emily Huston also tallied eight kills against UALR and hit .636 on the match.
In other first-day action of the Baylor Classic, Texas-Arlington defeated UALR 30-19, 25-30, 30-19, 30-24, and the Mavericks downed Mississippi 30-18, 30-13, 30-13.
Action concludes here Saturday. Mississippi takes on UALR at 12:30 p.m., while Baylor and UTA, both undefeated on the weekend, square off at 3 p.m.
