WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's basketball team held its initial full-squad practice of the 2003-2004 season Saturday at the Ferrell Center, the first under new head coach Scott Drew.
"Every coach anticipates the first day of practice," Drew said. "This one is no different. I liked the energy and enthusiasm the team showed. It's great to work with these guys; they've worked extremely hard in the preseason."
The Baylor men's team was able to work out together for the first time this season after going through individual and small-group workouts for several weeks. The three-hour practice was a high-energy affair, according to senior co-captain Matt Sayman.
"That was the quickest three hours I've ever been through," Sayman said, alluding to the energy brought to the floor by the new coaching staff. "It was a really good practice."
The Baylor men's and women's squads will jointly host "Moonlight Madness" Friday. The Ferrell Center doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the main event beginning at 8 p.m. A slam-dunk contest and a 3-point shooting competition will be followed by short scrimmages by both the men's and women's teams. Admission is free.
