WACO, Texas - Amanda Modglin, a 6-1 setter from Mayde Creek High School in Houston, has signed a national letter of intent with Baylor during the early signing period, head volleyball coach Brian Hosfeld announced today.
"We're excited to have Amanda joining our program," Hosfeld said. "She comes from a great family and is a quality person with a desire to help us achieve national success. I believe she'll help raise the bar both in the gym and academically. She'll give us needed depth at the setter position and will also compete for playing time at other positions right away."
As a junior, Modglin was a first-team all-district selection for the Rams and has been an academic all-district selection all four years. She was also named to lonestarvolleyball.com's All-Texas Team in 2003 and was named one of the nation's Top 100 seniors in the by prepvolleyball.com. Modglin, who plays club volleyball for Willowbrook Select in Houston, has recently been invited to attend the USA High Performance Camp in Austin, which will be held during Christmas break.
Modglin will graduate with high honors as she ranks among the top five-percent in her class and is a member of the National Honor Society. In addition to volleyball, she has also lettered in soccer, track and bowling. She is also active with the Peer Assistance Leadership and D.A.R.E. programs.
"She's a good player who enjoys working hard," Hosfeld added. "She's been receiving good training and experience with her Willowbrook Select club team and should be ready for the jump to college come August 2004."
