WACO, Texas - Baylor sophomore setter Emily Huston and senior outside hitter Stevie Nicholas were each named to the 2003 Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Huston, a double major in international studies and environmental studies, earned first-team honors. The Santa Rosa, Calif. native is having a career year on the floor, posting the fifth-highest single-season assist total so far with 1,336. She currently ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 11.72 assists per game and already ranks seventh on Baylor's career assists list. Huston was also named to the Academic All-District VI Team earlier this season.
Nicholas, a marketing major, was named to the second team. The Fullerton, Calif. native became one of only five players in Baylor history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for her career. She ranks third all-time in kills and seventh all-time in digs. She also holds the school record for kills in a match (36) and most 30-kill matches (6).
Nicholas is a two-time selection, earning Academic All-Big 12 honors as a sophomore in 2001, while Huston is a first-time recipient.
