WACO, Texas - Senior outside hitters Tisha Schwartz and Stevie Nicholas had 12 kills each in their final home match as Baylor dropped a 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-22) decision to Kansas in Big 12 volleyball action Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.
Nicholas also led the Bears (12-21, 4-15 Big 12) with 15 digs for her third double-double of the season. Sophomore setter Emily Huston had 30 assists and moved up to second on Baylor's single-season assists list. Freshman middle blocker Nicole LeBlanc hit . 364 and added eight digs.
Josi Lima led Kansas (20-10, 12-7) with 11 kills, while Sarah Rome and Lindsey Morris added 10 each. Rome had 10 digs for a double-double, and Abbie Jacobson had a match-high 16 digs.
Kansas got off to a quick start in game one, hitting .429 compared to Baylor's .163. The Jayhawks pulled away at 11-7, then 19-12. Kansas led by seven until late in the game when it scored the final three points to take game one, 30-20.
Game two was much like game one with the Jayhawks hitting .303 to Baylor's .175. The Bears fought back from a five-point deficit to tie the game, 18-18, but Kansas regained control by scoring three-straight points following a timeout. Kansas then went on a 6-1 run to go up, 28-22 and closed out the game, 30-24.
The Jayhawks jumped out to a 12-5 lead by scoring six-straight early in game three. The Bears slowly crept back into the game and got to within one at 20-19, but Kansas put together another six-point run to go up 28-21 and finished the match with a 30-22 win.
The Bears wrap up the 2003 campaign on the road as they travel to face Missouri on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.
