Volleyball's Tisha Schwartz Named All-Big 12

WACO, Texas - Baylor senior outside hitter/middle blocker Tisha Schwartz received honorable mention honors on the 2003 Big 12 All-Conference Volleyball Team as voted on by the head coaches, the league office announced today.

Schwartz, who earned honorable mention honors last year as well, led the Bears with 554 kills, which ranked second in the Big 12, and became only the fourth player in school history to reach 500 in a season. She averaged 4.20 kills per game to rank fifth in the league.

The 6-3 native of Amarillo, Texas, posted 17 double-doubles for the year, the second-highest total in the Big 12. Schwartz had double-digit kills in 30 of the Bears' 24 matches and had at least 20 kills in 12 matches. She tied for the team season high with 26 kills against Ole Miss on Aug. 30 and had a career-high 26 digs against Texas Tech on Nov. 1.

Schwartz, a member of Baylor's 25th Anniversary Team, finishes her career fourth on Baylor's all-time kills list with 1,501 and seventh in total blocks with 342. During her career, Schwartz was named to six all-tournament teams, while earning three Most Valuable Player awards.
