FAYETTEVLLE, Ark. - The Baylor men's and women's 4x400 relay teams and distance specialist Kyle King competed against some of the nation's toughest competition on Saturday in front of more than 5,000 fans at the Tyson Invitational, held at the University of Arkansas' Randall Tyson Track Center.

King gave the Bears a stellar start. In the opening race of the night, he clocked the fastest 5,000-meter time ever recorded (indoor or outdoor) by a Baylor athlete, breaking the previous school record with a time of 13:57.22. The time also met the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. Overall, King took eighth place out of 12 runners. Brian Keim was the previous indoor school recordholder, clocking a 14:05.90 in 1995.

The women's 4x400 relay team recorded a time of 3:40.49. Jasmine Opusunju, Danielle Myricks, Tiffany Wise and Barbara Petrahn combined to finish sixth in the race. The men recorded another provisional mark. Seth Billy, Robbie Quiroga, Brian McDonald and Jeremy Wariner clocked a time of 3:09.39 to finish fourth.

The Baylor track and field team will take next weekend off to prepare for the Big 12 Indoor Championship, which will take place at Nebraska Feb. 28-Mar. 1.
