Bears Open Season With Second-Place Finish

PARRISH, Fla. - Senior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson carded a 2-under par 70 in the final round of the Central District Classic to bring her 54-hole total to 219 (75-74), which was good enough for an individual second-place finish. Svenningson was one stroke shy of the winner, Ohio State's Kristen White, who fired a 69 today to finish at 218 on the 72-par, 6,099-yard course at the River Wilderness Golf Club.

Svenningsson led the Bears to a second-place team finish with a three-round total of 915 (302-311-302). Ohio State shot a tournament-best round of 291 today to take the team title with a total score of 909 (312-306). Texas A&M and Kansas State tied for third with three-round totals of 923. Nebraska totaled a 927 to finish fifth in the 15-team tournament.

Senior Melanie Hagewood also opened the season with a top-10 performance. With a final round of 75, she totaled a three-round score of 224 (72-77) to finish seventh, one stroke behind four golfers who tied for third place.

Rounding out the scoring for the Bears were juniors Michaelyn Morgan and Kelli McKandless. Morgan fired rounds of 79-80-77 for a total of 236 and a share of 32nd place. McKandless carded rounds of 76-81-80. She tied for 37th place with a total of 237. Freshman Josefin Svenningsson also traveled to the first tournament of the spring campaign. With a total score of 245 (82-80-82), she finished 62nd.

After a successful start to the spring campaign, the Baylor women's golf team will return to action March 3-4. The Bears travel to Houston for the Texas A&M-hosted "Mo"Morial Invitational at the Black Horse Golf Couse.
