Runners Compete In Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - Members of the Bears track and field team traveled to Houston on Saturday to gain competition experience at the Houston Indoor Invitational.
The 800 was the main event for the Bears. Katherine Duncan led the way, finishing sixth with a time of 2:15.96. Jessa Vacek crossed the finish line just behind her teammate, finishing seventh with a 2:16.67. Others competing in the event were Leah Marbach (10th; 2:19.55), Holly Moser (12th; 2:21.17), Lindsey Price (14th; 2:21.66) and Stephanie Bennett (22nd; 2:22.92). Candace Carroll competed in the 60-meter hurdles, taking 21st with a time of 9.15. Annie Housholder also competed in that event, finishing in 9.27 to take 26th. She also clocked a 1:02.30 to finish 36th in the 400.
Only two men made the trip to Houston. Ryan Jeffrey finished 19th in the 400 (50.89) and Joel Gittemeier placed 22nd in the 800 (2:02.04).
A complete Baylor track and field squad will return to action next weekend when the Bears travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Tyson Invitational.
