Softball Drops 7-6 Decision to Iowa State

Waco, Texas - For the second day in a row, Iowa State's Katie Ruby dealt the Baylor softball team the fatal blow. Ruby hit two three-run homers as Iowa State defeated Baylor 7-6 in Ames on Sunday. Ruby also hit a three-run homer on Saturday to propel the Cyclones to a one-run victory.
The loss now drops Baylor to 28-21 on the season and 2-10 in Big 12 play while Iowa State moves 16-22 overall and 4-7 in league action.
Baylor scored in each of the first three innings and led 4-1 after three stanzas. The Cyclones, behind the hitting of the catcher Ruby, put three on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth with a homer to left field. Baylor countered with two more in the top of the seventh to go up 6-4. However, Ruby struck again, this time a dinger to center field with two on, to give the Cyclones their 7-6 win and a series sweep.
Kelly Levesque was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Baylor. Senior Sarah Caudle managed two hits in four at bats and freshman Kelly Osburn was 2-for 3 at the plate for Baylor. For The Cyclones' Julia Lindsey joined Ruby and the only multiple hit Cyclone going 2-for-4.
Katie Decker pitched six innings for Baylor giving up five hits and striking out three. Cristin Vitek and Sarah Caudle each came in in relief, Caudle suffered the loss after giving up the homer to Ruby in the bottom of the seventh. Iowa State's Erica Martinez raised her record to 9-7 with the win.
Baylor now returns home for four games at Getterman Stadium this week. They host Southwest Texas on Tues., April 15 at 6:30 p.m. then host the University of Texas on Wednesday, also at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Bears will host two games with Missouri, the first on Friday at 5 p.m. and the second game on Saturday at noon.
