AUSTIN, Texas - The 76th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays continued today at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus. The Bears had a solid second day, recording two second-place finishes.
Junior Jordan Willmann was second in the heptathlon after the first day of competition with a four-event total of 3,189. She began the day with a leap of 17-5 ? in the long jump and a javelin throw of 86-8. Willmann closed out the competition by running a blazing 800, clocking a 2:13.86 to defeat everyone else by at least 10 seconds. Pittsburgh's Tamara McGil won the competition with a total of 5,291 points. Willmann recorded a season-best and provisional qualifying total of 5,152 to take second, followed by Jennifer Johnson of Texas A&M in third (5,081).
In the first running event of the day for Baylor, the men's 4x800 relay team of Jon Capron, Wil Fitts, Brian McDonald and Nick Devenport took second with a time of 7:27.01.
The day concluded with the 5,000-meter races. Lisa Cornelius finished the race in a personal-best time of 18:01.06 to finish 11th. Rob Morrow finished 13th with a time of 15:04.82.
The prelims of the 400 intermediate hurdles also were held today. For the women, Danielle Myricks ran a season-best 1:00.06 winning her heat and bettering her regional qualifying time to advance to the finals on Saturday. She had the seventh-fastest time fo the nine qualifiers. On the men's side Seth Billy dominated his heat clocking a regional-qualifying mark of 51.59, the second-best time of the day, to move on to the finals. Jordan Lewis finished third in his heat with a time of 53.13.
"Jordan Willmann did an outstanding job," head coach Clyde Hart said. "She moved from fourth to second with a fantastic 800 time in a strong wind. And, we got Seth Billy and Danielle Myricks into the finals. Finishing second was a good race for the 4x800. The two distance runners also ran well. Overall it was a good first day with two second place finishes and two moving on to the finals."
Competition in Austin continues through Saturday.
