Netters Advance to Round of 16

WACO, Texas - A crowd of 441 saw the No. 3-ranked Baylor Bears defeat No. 24 TCU in the second round of the NCAA Championships by a score of 4-0 on Saturday evening at the Baylor Tennis Center.
With the win, the Bears advance to the round of 16 of the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the last five years. Baylor, the tournament's No. 2 seed, raised their season record to 27-1 equaling the program's record for most wins in a season which they set last season when they ended play with a record of 27-2.
Baylor earned the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Reiner Neurohr and Benedikt Dorsch extended their winning streak to 11 matches with their 9-7 win over TCU's Toni Gordon and Fabrizio Sestini. BU's Mike Garcia and Benjamin Becker teamed up for the third time this season and beat Rafael Abreu and Jacob Martin in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4). Garcia and Becker took a 6-3 lead but the TCU duo fought back to tie the match, but the Baylor tandem weren't to be denied.
The Bears entered singles needing to win only three matches to secure their 27th win of the season. Dorsch made quick work of Gordon at No. 2, winning 6-3, 6-3. At No. 1, Becker downed Alex Minichini 7-5, 6-0 and, just a couple of minutes later, freshman Ivor Lovrak clinched the match for Baylor with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rafael Abreu. The victory extended Lovrak's winning streak to 20 matches.
Baylor now advances to the round of 16 at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex, site of the 2003 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships, May 17-26.
