Track and Field Athletes Compete at USA Championships

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The 2003 USA Track and Field Championships got underway today at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field. Three Baylor athletes competed against the nation's best on the opening day.
After a fifth place finish in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships last week, Jordan Willmann participated in four of the seven events today. Her best event of the day was the high jump where she placed fifth after clearing a height of 5-7 ?. She also ran times of 14.41 in the 100-meter high hurdles and 25.95 in the 200. She recorded a shot put distance of 38-1 ?. Willmann finished the day with a total of 3,237 points.
Sophomore Lakadron Ivery competed in her first event today, advancing to the semifinals of the 100-meter dash. She took 14th overall to qualify with a time of 11.52.
Darold Williamson also began competition on Thursday. Clocking a 46.13 in the 400-meter dash, he automatically qualified for the semifinals on Friday.
All three athletes will compete again on Friday. Willmann will finish up the heptathlon with the long jump, javelin and 200-meter dash. Both Ivery and Williamson will run in the semifinals of their respective events. Ivery also is slated to run in the 200, which gets underway on Saturday.
Jeremy Wariner and Angela Marvin will compete in the Junior division. Wariner begins competition on Saturday and Marvin runs on Sunday.
