WACO, Texas - Zane Carlson and Ryan LaMotta, members of the Baylor baseball team, visited Carver Middle School on Wed., Sept. 17. The after-school program, called "Too Cool for Trouble," provides a positive environment for Carver students who are potential candidates for dropping out of school.
Carlson and LaMotta, both pitchers on the baseball team, spoke to the children about the importance of staying in school and not using drugs.
After answering questions, Carlson and LaMotta played games with the students. The activities were meant to teach the value of teamwork and communicating with others.
Carolyn Nichols, director of Too Cool for Trouble, explained what the visit meant to the children.
"It is so important for these kids to have positive role-models in their lives," she said. "They love this."
Baylor athletes frequently visit Waco area schools and participate in many service programs in an effort to give back to the community.
