WACO, Texas - Benedikt Dorsch, the nation's top-ranked player, went undefeated to defend his singles tournament title in the H-E-B/Baylor Intercollegiate. Dorsch, with the help of his partner Ivor Lovrak, cruised to the victory Sunday afternoon in doubles competition.
In the semifinals, Dorsch defeated TCU's Alex Menichini the tournament's No. 3 seed, 6-4, 7-6. In the final, Dorsch made quick work of New Mexico's Divan Coetzee, 6-3, 6-4.
With the singles victory in hand Dorsch and his partner Lovrak turned their sights on the doubles championship. In the semifinal round, the Baylor duo defeated Henry Gers and Jasmin Hodzic of New Mexico 8-6. To reach the doubles final, Hodzic and Gers defeated Baylor's Jon Reckewey and Jason Gould 8-1. The final doubles match between Baylor and New Mexico's Haroud Akhavan and Divan Coetzee was never played. Akhavan and Coetzee withdrew from competition, also called a walk over, leaving Dorsch and Lovrak the doubles champions.
In the singles consolation semifinal, Baylor's Benjamin Becker was defeated 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 by Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Gonculo Figueiredo.
Baylor's next competition will be the ITA All-American, Oct. 3-12, in Chattanooga Tenn.
