WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's track team jumped up four spots to 13th, while the women fell two places into a tie for 16th in the latest Trackwire 25 national power rankings released Tuesday.
The men moved up on the strength of outstanding 400-meter performances by sophomore Jeremy Wariner and junior Darold Williamson. Wariner, the Big 12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week, posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 45.83 on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas, and ranks fifth in the country according to Trackwire's Dandy Dozen. Williamson clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 46.34 on Saturday and ranks sixth in the nation.
The men's 4x400 relay squad of Wariner, Williamson, sophomore Jamen Saziru and freshman Mark Teter continue to hold on to the No. 2 ranking behind LSU and recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:07.72 on Saturday.
Senior Jordan Willmann holds on to her No. 2 ranking in the pentathlon behind Georgia's Hyleas Fountain, while junior April Holliness also is ranked second in the long jump behind Nebraska's Ineta Radevica.
The Trackwire 25 projects a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country. This projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event. The complete Trackwire 25 can be found at www.trackwire.com.
